Garageable RVs: The "HOA Buster"
For many Canadians, the dream of owning an RV is crushed by two things: strict Homeowner Association (HOA) rules or the expensive monthly cost of off-site storage. The solution? The Garageable RV.
At RV Canada, we know that being able to park your camper in your own garage is the ultimate convenience. It protects your investment from harsh winters, eliminates monthly storage fees, and allows you to load up the fridge right from your kitchen before you hit the road.

The "7-Foot Rule"
Before you buy, you must measure.
-
The Barrier: The standard residential garage door is 7 Feet (84 inches) High.
-
The Reality: Most standard "Travel Trailers" (even small ones like the R-Pod or Geo Pro) are 9 to 10 feet tall once you account for the Air Conditioner on the roof. They will not fit.
-
The Solution: You need a Folding Trailer (Pop-Up or A-Frame) or a specialized Teardrop designed to slip under that 7-foot header.
Top Garageable Categories
1. Pop-Up Campers (Tent Trailers) The classic garageable RV. These units fold down to a travel height of roughly 4.5 to 5 feet, leaving plenty of room for overhead garage storage.
-
How it Works: The roof cranks up, and canvas "bunk ends" slide out.
-
Top Pick: Forest River Rockwood / Flagstaff. These are the gold standard. Models like the Rockwood Freedom or Flagstaff MAC offer heated mattresses, pro-rac racks for bikes, and even slide-out dinettes—all in a package that disappears into your garage.
-
Top Pick: Coachmen Clipper / Viking. Known for their "Express" systems that make setup faster. They are lightweight (often under 2,000 lbs), making them towable by almost any SUV or Minivan.
2. A-Frame Campers (Hard Side Folding) Want the low profile of a pop-up but hate the canvas? The "A-Frame" provides solid walls in a garageable package.
-
How it Works: Gas struts assist the triangular roof in popping up, and two solid sidewalls lock into place. Setup takes less than 60 seconds.
-
Top Pick: Forest River Rockwood Hard Side / Flagstaff Hard Side. These units feature glass windows, microwaves, and even heat pumps. When folded down, they are compact and aerodynamic, fitting easily into a garage.
3. Low-Profile Teardrops (Measure Carefully!) Not all teardrops fit!
-
The Trap: Many "Teardrop" style trailers (like the nuCamp T@B 400 or Forest River R-Pod) are surprisingly tall due to their axles and A/C units.
-
The Exception: Look for "Micro" teardrops like the Modern Buggy Little Buggy. Always check the "Travel Height" spec, including the A/C or fan vent.
Why Choose Garage Storage?
-
Save Money: Storage lots can cost $100–$200+ per month. Parking in your garage saves you $1,200 to $2,400 a year.
-
Longevity: UV rays and freeze/thaw cycles are the enemy of RV seals. An RV stored indoors will look brand new 10 years later, significantly boosting its resale value.
-
Security: Your RV is locked safely behind your house door, safe from theft or vandalism.
Towing Made Easy
Because garageable RVs are low-profile, they are the easiest units to tow.
-
Zero Wind Resistance: They tuck completely behind your tow vehicle's slipstream. You won't feel the "push/pull" of passing semi-trucks.
-
Fuel Economy: You will get significantly better gas mileage towing a folded pop-up than a full-height travel trailer.
-
Visibility: In many pop-ups, you can see right over the top of the trailer using your standard rearview mirror.
