What Does "Four Season" Actually Mean?

At RV Canada, we believe in transparency. "Four Season" is a marketing term, not a legal definition. However, the best manufacturers back it up with testing. Here is what you need to look for:

• Heated & Enclosed Underbelly: This is non-negotiable. The bottom of the trailer must be sealed with a corrugated barrier (Coroplast), and there must be a dedicated heat duct from the furnace blowing warm air into this space to keep the water tanks and dump valves from freezing.

• The "Package" Name: Look for specific badges.

  • Jayco: "Climate Shield" (Tested to 0°F / -17°C).

  • Keystone: "Polar Package."

• Dual Pane Windows: Standard RV windows are single-pane glass, which sweats and freezes in winter. Four Season units offer Dual Pane (Frameless) windows that create an air barrier, significantly reducing heat loss and condensation.

Top Winter-Ready Models

• Jayco North Point & Pinnacle: These are some of the warmest 5th wheels on the market. Jayco tests them in a climate chamber at 0 degrees Fahrenheit to ensure the kitchen plumbing doesn't freeze.

• Keystone Montana: The best-selling luxury fifth wheel often features 12V electric tank heaters (pads attached directly to the tank) that turn on automatically when the temperature drops.

Winter Camping Tips

Even the best RV needs help in -20°C weather.

• Manage Humidity: The biggest enemy in winter is moisture. Run your bathroom fan when showering and consider a small dehumidifier.

• Skirt It: If you are stationary for the winter, installing a vinyl or foam board skirt around the base of the RV stops the wind from stripping heat away from the underbelly.

• Heated Hoses: Never leave a standard garden hose connected in winter. It will freeze and burst. Use a specialized heated water hose.

Ready for the Cold?

• Check the Windows: Tap on the glass. If it sounds "thick" or you see two layers, it's dual pane. If not, you will lose a lot of heat.

• Ask About R-Values: Ask our team for the brochure spec sheet. You are looking for R-30+ in the roof and floor.
